Welcome back to another enlightening episode of Classroom 2 Courtroom. If you’re a law student, a a recent graduate, or an attorney looking to level up your litigation game, this episode is for you!

Ever wondered how to evolve from a level one attorney to a level two attorney? This episode dives deep into what it means to be a level one litigator and how to make the leap to level two. By the end of this episode, you’ll have the strategies and mindset tools you need to increase your work output and significantly impact the courtroom.

Understanding the Level One Litigator

We begin by defining what a level one attorney looks like, especially in the context of litigation. Level one attorneys often handle all the essential trial prep, from delivering opening statements to managing exhibits. They do their job well, and this role is typically filled by newer attorneys. However, some litigators remain at level one throughout their careers. While this is perfectly fine, there’s always room for growth.

The Mindset Shift to Level Two

Transitioning to a level two attorney requires a mindset shift. Unlike a level one litigator who may be content with getting a few declarations, a level two attorney aims to produce ten times the output. This is all about working smarter, not harder. Key books like “The 10X Rule” by Grant Cardone and “The 4-Hour Workweek” by Tim Ferriss offer foundational insights into achieving this.

Strategies to 10X Your Productivity

A level two litigator doesn’t stop at the basics. Instead of getting two or three declarations, aim for a dozen or more. Learn to layer evidence effectively. Attend every CLE class available through your county bar association. Continuously educate yourself on work optimization and evidence gathering. Speak frequently with senior attorneys to gain insights and attend trial schools to perfect your craft.

Real-Life Examples

A cinematic example of this transformation can be seen in the 1992 film, “My Cousin Vinny.” The protagonist Vinny, portrayed by Joe Pesci, starts as an inexperienced attorney and transforms into a level two litigator by the end of the movie. His final argument incorporates multiple layers of evidence, leaving no doubt about his clients’ innocence. This serves as a perfect illustration of what a level two attorney should aim to achieve.

Your Path to Becoming a Level Two Litigator

Reaching the level of a top-tier litigator requires more than just skill; it takes dedication and a constant drive to improve. From attending CLE classes to diving into books on productivity, every step you take brings you closer to mastering the courtroom.
